Regular fire door inspections and surveys are vital to maintain fire safety standards and ensure that the doors remain effective in an emergency.
However, it is crucial to note that simply having fire doors in your building is not enough – they should also be inspected and maintained every six months. Regular maintenance helps to prolong the life of fire doors and in some cases to avoid the need for a complete replacement.
What happens During the inspection?
Fire door inspections consist of checks of each individual fire door. Checks include assessing the door leaf, door frame, self-closer, door hinges, locks, handles, panic hardware, glazing and apertures. The inspection also includes the passive protection surrounding the door such as intumescent strips and seals. Gaps between the door and frame, as well as threshold gaps, are measured and fire safety signage is checked.
Inspections will tell you if your fire doors are compliant or what you need to do to make them compliant as per HM Government Fire Safety Risk Assessment for Offices and Shops https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a815c78ed915d74e33fdc7e/9449_Offices_and_Shops_v2.pdf
